The Last-minute Prom Survival Guide

Prom. The time of the year that fills schedules while emptying wallets at the same time. Promposals, tux rentals, dress purchases, hair, nail and tan appointments are just a sample of the many tasks that need to be completed before prom night. As stressful as the preparation process is, here are a few last-minute tips to enjoy the best night of the school year.

#1 Do your research:
Fearful of the result of that new self-tan? Having a hard time finding the perfect shoes? Google is your best friend. The power of a search engine can take you YouTube, magazine websites, and even clothing store websites that can provide, tips, tricks and more affordable options for any of you or your prom date’s desires. Helpful sources include beauty guru “Prom Hack” tutorials and more young adult focused magazines such as Seventeen (http://www.seventeen.com/beauty/makeup-skincare/tips/a30018/beauty-tips-for-prom/). These few things and more can help provide the relief of the prom stress, which you have been needing.

#2 Plan:
Although corsage/boutonniere pickup time, hair and makeup appointments are scheduled, the fine details of prom can still be ironed straight (unless you’re just that far ahead in the prom game), this also includes a thought-out backup plan. Estimate driving times from certain locations to remain on schedule, set out all of the items you need for the day the night before, and pack any and all bags/purses you’ll be bringing for the entire night (including after-prom events). To make sure your prom group is as prepared as you intend to be, create a group chat via text message or Facebook Messenger to ensure everyone is in full communication with each other. This step is probably the most time consuming after the basic prom prep you have been doing for months. But, trust me, this will allow the night to run smoothly.

#3 Expect the unexpected:
When you envision prom, the night indescribably flawless. Unfortunately, as humans, things happen. Situations that are simply under our control like the top of dresses slowly slipping off your body, blisters from heels, or small stain from dinner. But, there are solutions for every possible conflict like the ones stated. Come prepared! Whether that’s throwing safety pins in the small pocket of your purse, remembering your mascara and lip color, or running to the drug store for travel sized stain remover on the way to the dance after dinner, the possibilities of success are endless! No matter what happens, do not let the things you cannot control impact you. Your number of proms are limited, make the most of all the day holds!

#4 Enjoy!
Like I said, prom isn’t something that happens everyday. Take advantage of all the nice pictures that will be taken, seeing all of your peers lookin’ sharp, and most importantly, the dinner. In all the different experiences prom (and after-prom) have to offer, there is so many memories that can be made. Make it a day/night to remember!

There are many tricks and steps to having the best prom of your life, but these are just some of the general ways to make this year’s prom the best. Now, go out there, and dance the night away!
